Beth Chaim is…

Rooted in tradition. Loving in action.

What we believe

(Filler txt from Bnai)

We believe in spirituality.

We hold tight to tradition as we wake up our spiritual selves. We nourish ourselves with prayer, joyful music, and a loving community, which brings us closer to God.

We believe in community.

We are better together than separate. Our experiences and values help us build strong connections, which make us feel like we really belong somewhere. Whatever happens in life, we are there for one another—a safe and solid sanctuary as we navigate the ebb and flow of life.

We believe in inclusivity.

We know that our community is made strong by the way we engage with other people. We believe in a radical embrace of every individual, and we welcome all walks of life. We love our diverse community, and the rich and vibrant tapestry it brings about.

We believe in activism.

We see the injustice in our world and we want to make things better. We know in our hearts we’re part of something bigger, so we have no choice but to pursue the causes we care about with passion. We hope we can make a difference in the world, and that our work will inspire compassion and social equality.

We believe in growth.

We learn through wrestling with our beliefs, which is exactly what our educational program is for. Education is the cornerstone of self-awareness, intellectual development, and an enduring faith, and it’s a thriving part of our community for all ages. Our spiritual leaders are eager to help enthusiastic students make their way into deeper introspection.

Our spiritual leaders share a vision of a diverse, dynamic, and welcoming community that offers many paths to Jewish prayer and supports one another in our spiritual quests. We are committed to honoring tradition, while re-imagining and innovating our practices to be more accessible and relevant.

Our Spiritual Leadership

Our History

Beth Chaim Reform Congregation was established in 1992 by several families who wished to have a Reform Jewish presence in the greater Chester County area.  The aim was to establish a  Jewish house of worship where all people could enjoy the practice of Reform Judaism and be a  part of the larger Jewish family.   As a great many of our families are of mixed religious backgrounds, we pride ourselves on being a Jewish congregation where all feel they belong.  Diversity is our strength.

We are affiliated with the Union of Reform Judaism and the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia.  Through these organizations, we have the opportunity for involvement in a wide range of Jewish activities throughout the Delaware Valley and the nation.

After years of conducting services and religious school at a variety of facilities, we have built and  embraced our own house of worship.  On August 26, 2007, we moved our Torah into our new home in Malvern.  Beth Chaim remains close to its grass roots history and continues to rely on its members to create its atmosphere and choose the direction it will grow.
