High Holidays

Yizkor Service 2023

Dear Beth Chaim,
A true community is a family of families. As the High Holidays approach, we are thinking deeply about how we connect and support one another. Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Kotzk would say that there is nothing more whole than a broken heart. In our family of families our loved ones live on in our broken hearts.

Our Yom Kippur Yizkor service is scheduled for Monday, September 25th at 5pm at Beth Chaim and on Zoom. We have a long-standing tradition of creating a yizkor book of remembrance. Because we will be in person and online this year, we are once again taking the opportunity to transform our book of remembrance into a video photo tribute to all our loved ones. This video montage will be featured both as part of the service and will also be available to you after the holiday to share with loved ones and family members if you would like to do so. So, this year we are encouraging you not only to submit names for inclusion in our congregational tapestry of care, but also photos.

We realize that you may not have photos for every person you would like to honor. Please submit names for the folks you would like to remember. In addition, if possible, please also include a single photo for each person you would like to remember in that way.

As it is said, “the name of one who has died shall not disappear.” We are fortunate to live and love in a time when technology gives us a chance to preserve the beauty in their faces, the light in their eyes as well. Thank you in advance for sharing your memories with us.

Warmly,
Rabbi Michelle Pearlman

Yizkor is also traditionally associated with an act of tzedakah, and many choose to contribute to the congregation in memory of their loved ones.

Photograph Opportunity
This year in addition to accepting tribute names we would also like to include electronic versions of your loved ones that we can include in our tribute.
If you would like to include a photograph of your loved ones, please send an electronic copy of the photograph that you would like included in the tribute.
We will only be accepting electronic copies of the photographs, one photo per person being remembered.

Photos and tributes after the final date will not be included in the Yizkor Video.
